Yes, our library is currently offering basic computer/Internet classes in Spanish. It's a 30-minute fundamental Internet class that teaches patrons the basic features of Internet Explorer (IE), and basic research skills. It is also a brief walk-through of some of the online services the library offers (catalog, databases, etc). Our branch library is fortunate to have the funding for a computer aide who teaches patrons who register for the basic class. We basically reserved 2 computer stations and do a simple step-by-step walk through of the IE and the library's homepage.

Hi all,
After last week's over-the-phone follow up to our Spanish Outreach session, someone suggested that we could post materials that we are developing in our libraries.

I'm attaching 2 documents: one is a "how to use the public computers" brochure, in Publisher. It is quite specific to our library, but it might be useful as a model. If you notice any errors, please let me know too!
I ran it by 2 staff members who are from this area and speak Spanish as their first language, to try to catch my mistakes and make it as easy as possible for people to understand.

The second document is just a short list of useful websites--free online computer resources in Spanish. I cut these pathfinders and insert them inside the first brochure, or hand them out on their own.

Sandra Cowan
Branigan Memorial Library
Las Cruces, NM
