It's Free, Right?

We all know there's no such thing as a free lunch, but thanks to the generosity of the Illinois State Library, there is free continuing education for Illinois library staff who are registered users of WebJunction Illinois. To the right, you'll find a wealth of courses. You'll also notice that the majority are priced at $0 because the Illinois State Library has pre-paid all course fees for registered users.

If you're a bargain hunter, your heart may race when you see the word "free," but keep in mind that although these courses are truly free to registered users of WebJunction Illinois, there has been a fee pre-paid by the Illinois State Library, and each time you enroll in a course, there is a cost deducted from that pre-paid amount. With that in mind, we encourage you to take advantage of the free continuing education, but follow these simple guidelines:

  • Take only 1 - 2 courses at any one time in order to avoid overloading yourself or running into the problem of non- completion.
  • Carefully consider which course(s) you would like to take and read all course descriptions and expectations prior to clicking on the "Enroll Now"
  • Try to complete courses in a timely fashion. You will receive a reminder after 30 days if you have not accessed any course you enroll in.*
  • Once you have taken a course, you can immediately provide feedback and comments on your experience to share with colleagues.
  • Enjoy and learn!

School librarians can earn CPDU credits for the completion of WebJunction Courses.
