Blue Island Public Library Lends a Helping Hand
When Darren Thompson at the Blue Island Public Library heard that the multimedia section of the local high school had been flooded, he offered his services and the library equipment to record important school events.

When you think about it, the library has a lot of potential to serve the community in many different ways.  One way I noticed how we could better serve our community was to record the students performing at the local high school.  I heard that the high school’s multimedia section flooded and would have prevented them from recording a few of their events.  Concert Set Up

That wasn’t a problem since I spoke to the administration and teachers and volunteered to record those events.  They were quite happy and very willing to work with me.  I recorded the marching band, Fall Tri-M recital and Christmas concerts.  The students and teachers were patient with me during the sound checks and the recordings went off without a hitch.  I placed the recordings up on our website as a podcast so the entire Community could enjoy them.

What was especially rewarding was how excited the parents were when they heard the recordings.  This is just one way I’ve found that libraries can better serve their communities.
