Service: The Hallmark of Illinois Libraries

Illinois libraries have a rich history of service to their populations. Supporting this rich history are the services and programs provided by the Illinois State Library and the regional library systems. Through the Illinois State Library, the Secretary of State/State Librarian awards nearly $60 million annually in grants to local and regional library institutions  to enhance, improve, and supplement local initiatives.

In 2003, Illinois library systems travelled more than 2,000,000 miles to deliver materials to library users That's over 4 trips to the moon and back! Projecting ahead to 2007, we must be well on our way to a 5th trip.
