Illinois Wimba Archives

The Illinois State Library and the Illinois Regional Library Systems are using Wimba to provide some excellent training and workshops. Even if you do not attend these sessions live, you can still benefit from the content and materials by using these archives.

If you have not already done so, you will need to configure your computer to access these Wimba archives by running the setup wizard after you click on the archive link. You may also want to read the Wimba Classroom Guide

NOTE: If you are having any problem with the audio in an archive, try running the setup wizard prior to accessing the archive. Even if you have already run it for a live session, this may take care of any audio problems you encounter.

Series and programs marked with streaming video are available in streaming video format.

  • Special Library Association/Illinois Chapter Meeting: Mojo Magic streaming video
    • Mojo Magic! Get your mojo on with a couple of info pros, Dianna Wiggins and Lorene Kennard, as they share secret weapons of the Internet by demonstrating tools, widgets and resources that you may not have seen before. Included in this fun, interactive session are tips and tricks with the latest widgets and applications from the world of social media, aggregation tools that will make you look smarter than you really are, and just plain fun stuff that you may want to check out for personal or professional reasons.   • Personnel Management: A Human Resource Education Series streaming video 
    • Creating Job Descriptions and Advertising Positions: Morgan Cadwalader, Alliance Library System Human Resources Administrator, explains how to create job descriptions, draft, and advertise open positions.  Topics covered include what type of information to include in job descriptions, disability compliance issues, and the use of fill-in forms. Morgan also explains how to draft and advertise open positions to gain the best qualified candidates. (08/04/09) 
    • Creating and Evaluating Applications: Please join Morgan Cadwalader, Alliance Library System Human Resources Administrator, as she explains the next step in hiring: accepting and evaluating job applications. Morgan provides sample job applications, shows you how to best evaluate applications, and gives you an idea of what type of information to provide to the interview team. She also provides you with resources and tips for writing reference letters for former employees and student workers. (09/01/09) 
    • Preparing to Interview, Meeting Applicants, and Fulfilling Legal Responsibilities: Morgan Cadwalader, Alliance Library System Human Resource Administrator explains the final steps in hiring: interviewing, the job offer, acceptance, and new employee orientation.  This workshop discusses sample interview questions, questions to avoid, orientation procedures, and best practices.(10/06/09)
       
  • Museum Adventure Pass Program streaming video
    • The Museum Adventure Pass Program is designed to allow patrons of participating libraries in MLS, DLS, and NSLS check out passes to 17 area museums. This session is designed to give staff members of participating libraries an orientation to the program. Use of the website was demonstrated and questions were answered by the project managers. Please note that the Museum Adventure Pass Program is only available to public libraries in DLS, MLS, and NSLS. (08/26/09)
  • Tea for Two Plus You? Series streaming video 
    • Posting A Document: In this session we will review the steps for uploading a document to WJIL and the process documents go through for approval prior to access on the site.This session is highly recommended for LSTA Grant recipients since our example process will show how to post your LSTA updates to WebJunction Illinois. (4/10/09)
    • Creating and Joining Groups: In this session we review how to find and join groups on WebJunction. Groups provide a venue for people with similar professional responsibilities, common projects, and shared interest to join together in discussion and document sharing. We compare WebJunction Global groups and WebJunction Illinois groups. (4/17/09) 
    • Registration and Social Networking: In this session we review how to register for WebJunction Illinois, add an avatar to your WJIL profile and set privacy and communication settings (4/24/09)
    • Enrolling in and Launching Courses: In this session we go through the process of enrolling in courses provided in the WebJunction Illinois Course Catalog. We also launch courses provided by SkillSoft, LibraryU and UNT (University of North Texas) LE@D (Library Education @ Desktop) and review the series of pop-up windows and interface of each course provider.
