Destination Automation for Rick Warren Library

Rick Warren Memorial Public Library located in Elkville, Illinois, is in the process of automation. Automation was made possible by a LSTA grant in the amount of $10,488 and local matching funds of $10,453. Destination Automation began in October 2008, and will end August 15, 2009, with an Open House at the library to celebrate the completion of Destination Automation.
All Rick Warren Library holdings have been catalogued into the Southern Illinois Library Network (SILNET). Through Destination Automation, two employees were hired to catalogue over 13,000 library items. The library staff also weeded over 2,000 items out of their holdings and found new homes for the discarded material. Rick Warren Library’s automation system will be connected to Shawnee Library System’s automation structure. The library staff will also be trained on the new automation system and then Destination Automation will be in full operation in the Rick Warren Memorial Public Library District. Patrons of the Rick Warren Library will benefit with catalogued holdings and resource sharing through SILNET.
Rick Warren Library has purchased library cards sporting a new logo which indicates the historic past of Elkville by including the train and elk. In the early 1800’s, herds of elk provided settlers an abundance of meat; in 1851, the Illinois Central railroad planned a station stop and Elkville grew around that depot. Rick Warren Library was established as a city library in 1984 and expanded its territory in 2004.
