SHARING LSTA PROJECTS ON WEBJUNCTION ILLINOIS

[NOTE: If you would like to download a copy of this document click on the file name above the "Printer Friendly" button on this page]

Please share information about your FY2009 LSTA grant project on WebJunction Illinois (WJIL).   The ideal window for posting is April - July, to include the impact and results of your project, but please post prior to August 1st.

The process is simple. Imagine that you have just gotten a job as a reporter and your assignment is to write an article about your LSTA grant project. Write an interesting description about your project as if you were writing an article for the newspaper including the details such as who, what, where, and why, as appropriate. Include activities, primary target audience and outcomes. Your project will have global exposure through WJIL, so please wait until you have solid details and results of your project, rather than speculating on what will happen.

Write about a page or two of narrative. Please format your document and spell check prior to submitting it.  Insert appropriate photos or graphics into the document to make the information more visually interesting and save the document to your computer.

When you are ready to post, go to http://il.webjunction.org/lsta. Make sure that you are logged into the site and then click on the “Documents” tab then click on “Submit Documents.” (If you are not a registered user of WebJunction Illinois, go to http://il.webjunction.org and click on "Create Account.") Use the following instructions to complete your LSTA Update posting.

STEP 1: Enter Document Details
  • Enter the project title in the "Title Field"
  • Make sure that your name and the name of your library is in the "Author" field
  • Include a VERY brief description of your posting (1 – 2 sentences at most. This is what the user will see when they click on the Documents tab)
  • You should not have to do anything to the "Publication Date" or "Topic Page" fields since these are automatically inserted.
  • You may add any "Tags" that you feel would help others find your document at a later time (hint: don't use the "Select Tags" button which takes quite some time to load, just enter those you feel are appropriate)

STEP 2: Enter Content

  • Scroll down until you see the area where you can upload a file (below the editor box)
  • Browse to your document on your computer, click on it, then click on Open. You will see the document path added to the form.
  • If you have additional materials that you would like to load along with your LSTA grant Update, click on the "Upload more files" for the opportunity to browse and upload additional documents and files.
STEP 3:  Set Preferences
  • Leave the check mark in the box next to "Yes, I allow WebJunction Members to rate this document." This will allow others who are reading the updates to give their feedback.
STEP 4: Copyright
  • Indicate with a check in the box that you have legal authority to distribute your document
  • If you choose, you can leave the Creative Commons licensing information in the box, or delete the html that is there if you so choose.
Final Steps
  • IMPORTANT: Click on the "Post" button at the bottom of the page when you have completed all steps.
  • At any time during the posting process, you can click on the "Save and Continue Editing" at the bottom of the page to save your work, however this will result in your document remaining in "Draft" status. You must complete the posting process at some point by clicking on the "Submit" in order to submit the document for approval.
  • Your document will be officially posted to the WJIL site after approval by WJIL Administrator.
After posting your document, please pursue sharing additional resources, documents and final products of your grant project through WJIL.   Manuals, curriculum, and downloadable documents: the more LSTA grants products and projects can be shared, the more others can benefit from your experiences by not having to duplicate efforts. You may also want to start a discussion thread about your project by clicking on the "Discussion" tab on the LSTA page.

WJIL is a wonderful venue to brag about the success of your project, read about creative projects being done by others, and chat about grants in general with others from across the State of Illinois.

"LSTA grants are awarded by the Illinois State Library (ISL), a Division of the Office of Secretary of State, using funds provided by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), under the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA)."
