Windows XP will not load get black screen
1:48 PM EDT 3/30/07
When I try to bring up Win XP all I get is a black screen. The computer sees the hard drive and it sees it in BIOS but when it gets to the point where its supposed to load Windows and show the logo it goes to the black screen. What could be causing this.

I moved this because it is more appropriate in Software.

That being said, can you boot up in Safe Mode?

If you are seeing just a completely blank screen after the BIOS screen goes by, with no messages at all, and if pressing F8 repeatedly as it tries to boot does nothing, then I think your next step would be to do a physical scan of the drive.

You should be able to get a drive scanning utility from either the PC or hard drive manufacturer that can be put on a bootable floppy, so that you can boot to it and see if there is any physical damage to the drive. You may even have a CD from the PC vendor with something like this on it.

That physical scan can tell you whether the drive needs replacing, or if you might be able to get by reinstalling Windows.
