Fantastic Freebies!
11:28 AM EDT 6/19/06
One of my colleagues and I did a tech talk earlier this month that was a huge hit and quite easy to plan. It was a 90 minute session in which we each demonstrated our 6 or 7 favorite freebies online. We spent 5-10 minutes giving the highlights of each freebie (things like online calendars, free photo accounts, etc) and then we did a quick demo of one or two cool features from each.
You can read more about this program on our tech talk blog:
http://tuesdaytechnologytalks.blogspot.com
You can also see the PPT slides form our website: http://www.princetonlibrary.org/reference/techcenter/index.html
The slides we used as a quick guide more than anything else, the freebies were the focus...
Such an easy program or course to offer... and it can be changed easily to stay current with the "new" new thing. Oh, and a great way to start the discussion of Web 2.0 in your training plan.

We now offer this class a few times a year and always get a great response. One thing that people like is stuff that is free!
We update it each time we teach it to keep it cutting edge.

The first time we offered Fantastic Freebies it was as a Tech Talk. We hold Tech Talks the first Tuesday of every month and we have an audience of 30 or so "regulars" that come to every talk. Tech Talks also get advertised in our quarterly program guide, on our web site and via a press release.
I publish a monthly calendar of classes on our web site and we have all of our class descriptions online too: http://www.princetonlibrary.org/research/techcenter/classes.html
