LCD monitors

Has anyone put LCD monitors in public areas? Now that prices are more reasonable we are going to replace some staff monitors with them but are concerned they can't stand up to public use.

From a tech support POV, we get surprisingly few calls about them, having installed them in thousands of libraries in 23 states.
Actually, my own, non-scientific impression is that we get fewer calls about the LCD monitors than we do about the CRT's.
As Kendra mentions - hi kendra - they do tend to be more susceptable to burn-in, and many libraries that have them use screen protectors as well.

We don't have any experience with them but have been told by others that the screens were easily scratched and that even touching the surface can damage the cells. I haven't been able to find any information to that effect. I recently read a review of a couple that put them through quite a rough physical testing and they didn't seem very fragile to me.
Have you used them long enough to have a feel for their longevity? And what products are you using?

Here is a link to an example of what I am talking about. There are others out there I believe, but this will give you an idea.

Since this last post is 3 years old, can anyone update recommendations for LCD flat screen monitors with more durable "harder" screens?
