"At will" employment
3:09 PM EDT 9/18/08
My board just allowed us to change our policy to eliminate our probationary period and all references to probation from our personnel manual. Since Kansas is an "at will" employment state there is some thought that having a probationary period might be interpreted to mean that when that period is over an employee becomes "permanent." This clarification could be helpful in a wrongful discharge case.

Is anyone else making similar changes? Is anyone out there? Hellooooo.

From what I understand there is no such thing as a 'permanent' employee in a right to work state. This means that an employee can be fired for no reason, at any time.
