recommended Latino titles for children

We are creating a master list of recommended Latino titles for children from all the handouts and pamphlets I have been gathering over the past couple of years. It will be in Excel format and divided into picture book, fiction and nonfiction.

We'd like to keep adding to this as new lists are released. Does anyone have suggestions on where to look in order to integrate other lists of recommended titles?

We will be happy to share when we have something ready!

Hi Carol,

You are in luck. There are tons of great resources out there about recommended Latino titles for kids. Here is a link to a YA ist that was compiled earlier this year by the REFORMA listserv: http://www.reforma.org/YA%20Latino%20Bibliography%20revised%201-2-2008.pdf

I would also recommend REFORMA's Children and Young Adults webpage:http://www.reforma.org/children.htm

ALSC also has some great lists available: http://www.ala.org/ala/alsc/diadelosninos/diadelosninos.cfm

And finally, check out Growing Comunidad: Library Programs and Materials for Latino Youth: http://webjunction.org/do/DisplayContent?id=19681
It includes helpful resources and templates - including an evaluation form for Latino Children's Lit. by Jamie Campbell Naidoo, Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina, School of Library and Information Science.

Criticas Magazine is another great resource for Latino Spanish-and English-language material. You can find articles on serving Spanish speakers, reviews for adult and children's, and also booklists for best titles to include in your collection.
