Programming attendance
10:27 AM EDT 6/18/08
We are frustrated at the lack of attendance by Hispanic children at our summer reading club programs. Our craft sessions, storytimes, magic shows, etc, cannot compete with the Internet.

Yes, we've done outreach in the community and especially in the schools. I know it takes time to build our audience, but what other suggestions do you have?

Have you considered turning off the children internet computers during your programming hours? It works well with us here in Reading, PA. Usually, the children will attend the program when they realize that they can get on the internet after the program is over. I hope this helps.

You may need to take your programming to them ... the kids may not be very mobile if their parents are not (especially with gas at $4 a gallon).
