Cultural Events
4:30 PM EDT 4/6/05
The Colorado Folk Arts Council is teaming up with other local organizations to host a multi-cultural event to celebrate Dia Del Lost Ninos, an annual event celebrated at the end of April in the Denver Metro area to honor children. This celebration will be the metro areas largest multi-cultural, multi-venue, multi-collaborative Day of the Child event in the state, on April 27th and April 28th. The Colorado Folk Arts Council will team up with The Rocky Mountain Storytellers Conference, the City of Aurora, and seven youth performance groups from five different cities in the metro area to celebrate the national holiday Dia de los Ninos/ Dia de los Libros. This holiday is celebrated at the end of April every year in honor of children. It is a day to promote the health, welfare, literacy and education of children worldwide.
This kind of event offers a great opportunity for area libraries to have a presence in the Spanish-speaking community. And perhaps even a way to find bilingual staff. I am hoping that some of the Denver metro area libraries step up and work with the organizers to be included in the festivities in some way!

We are just beginning to work with the Spanish community and I think your event is a great idea. Hopefully, we will be able to do something along the same lines in the future.

I'd like to highlight some activities that libraries are doing to celebrate Dia de los muertos. If you have any you would like to share, please share here!
Two libraries that I found already: City of Austin Public Library http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/library/news/nr20071022.htm
Waterboro Public Library Dia de los muertos (Day of the Dead) resources http://www.waterborolibrary.org/oldsite/muertos.htm
Thanks, Emily
