One of the big issues for administrator types is long-range planning. This is not just technology ... technology and "society in general" coexist and influence each other.

For instance:

Due to my own contacts I've been volunteering (a bit) to help with a reasearch project at the Institute for the Future. I've gotten a bit o' swag (t-shirt, mug, etc.) and also the <i>2007 Ten-Year Forecast -- Perspectives</i>.

I very much recommend reading the reports on culture, communities, demographics, and politics ... the hardware and software that enables this is already here. WebJunction itself is such a place. ;-)
